Which body Shape are you ?

When you start shopping for a wedding dress, you might be overwhelmed by the number of options and all the choices. If you’ve got something in mind before you set foot in a bridal shop then make sure it’s the right shape for your body. Trust the staff in the shop to help and advise, pointing you in the right direction for styles that will suit your body shape.

Pear shaped? Choose an A-line dress – it’ll have a fitted bodice and flare out from the waist to the floor, creating an unbroken silhouette. A V-neck or spaghetti strapped bodice will showcase your slender upper body. Don’t forget that the A-line silhouette can be used for formal wedding dress fabrics, but also more casual fabrics like raw-silk if you’re going for a less formal look.

If you are busty you will look great with a scooped neckline as it will open up your face and display your décolletage without showing too much cleavage – if you’re looking for a strapless bodice, choose one with a sweetheart or dipped neckline to flatter you more.

If you are small busted look for a bodice which has ruching as this will create volume and give the illusion of curves.

If you are Plus – Size  look for an Empire dress – these feature a high waist (just under the bust) which will hug your upper torso and flow into a gradual floor length  A – line. There should be no pleating of the fabric, which is reminiscent of maternity wear. The dress should play up your shape; if it’s too loose, it will add pounds. Find fabrics like satin that provide structure, rather than anything too flowy. If you love the romantic look of airier fabrics, choose a gown with a stiffer base, then add an embroidered tulle overlay.
Mermaid or trumpet dresses will show off an hourglass body by hugging the bust, waist and hips. The mermaid dress will fit to the knee, where as the trumpet dress will flare from mid thigh to the ground.

Petite ladies   Look for trumpet, modified A-line gowns and sheath , perhaps a tea dress. Find a style with a waistline above your natural waist, to make the lower half of the dress appear longer.  Be wary of dresses with a dropped waist, which will make your legs seem nonexistent, and ball gowns―it’s easy to get lost in that voluminous skirt. Tea dresses are shorter, either above or just below the knee and accentuate tiny waists and ankles.

If you’re tall you can look for a simple silhouette, emphasising your natural shape so every aspect of the dress―the lower waistline, a floor-sweeping hem―needs to reflect your longer proportions.

If you are Straight – lined look for a dress that will create curves where you don’t have them. With a dress that’s cut on the bias; the curving side seam will give you the illusion of curves or choose a ball gown that cinches in at your natural waist and descends into a full, flowing floor-length skirt: It will capitalize on your slenderness and camouflage a lack of hips.

Bear in mind our in-house seamstress can alter any dress and add padding or take away too much fabric to make sure your chosen dress flatters you and ensures that you look absolutely beautiful.

We have on site talented seamstresses. When you have bought your wedding dress or bridesmaids dress it can be arranged for alterations so that your dress fits perfectly. The majority of full-length wedding dresses will need shortening and it is best to get this done by a professionals to ensure the cut of the dress isn’t spoiled. They can make sure it fits around the bust, waist and hips so it feels like a made to measure dress.

If you are unsure of which style of dress to choose, we can offer experienced, personal advice on the best style for your body shape. We can also arrange for the seamstresses to discuss and advice on the altertions you would like.

Maids to Measure

Maids to Measure

Uk based maids to Measure was launched when India and Sinclair Sellars saw a gap in the market – brides and their bridesmaids were struggling to find their perfect dresses.

The brainchild of sisters India and Sinclair Sellars has grown after a boost of investment by Dragons Den entrepreneur Touker Suleyman. The pair created their company to offer a more bespoke choose of beautiful bridesmaid dresses. the owner of Ghost noticed the girls’ designs and approached them to discuss working together.

The company has grown after benefitting from Toukers time and experience and Cloud Nine are delighted to stock these dresses to offer even more choice for  bridesmaids and flower girls.

Ladies are able to choose from a range of necklines, bodice fits and skirt lengths to create their own dresses in a range of beautifulcolours – each of the bride’s bridesmaid’s dresses can be similar but individually different to enhance each wearer’s figure and  preference as well as complimenting the brides dress.

The dresses are then created in the UK with a choice of 9 designs available in 2 – 3 weeks , the remaining styles available in 12 weeks.

To find out more, do give us a call or pop in to our shop and have a look for yourself.

The first dance

Which song have you chosen for your first dance?

The traditional first dance for the bride and groom can be a nerve wracking moment. The key though is to pick a track you both love. You’ll be more relaxed as you take to the floor and everytime you hear it in the years to come you will be reminded of your big day.

If you’re looking for inspiration, have a look at this list and listen to some of these songs.
